Outreach Ministries
Bereavement Committee
This team offers guidance and consolation on behalf of the Christian community to those who have suffered the death of a loved one. This ministry involves visiting the funeral home to be present to the family and to plan the various liturgical celebrations that surround death. It also involves attending a Vigil for the deceased, the funeral Mass and being present, if possible at the grave side.
Community Improvement Association for Chalker Place
The Basilica Parish has representatives on this association which was formed to address the social challenges facing the residents of Chalker Place. A Community Centre has been established in the heart of the housing complex and the work of the association is ongoing in developing programs and helping to bring a sense of pride to the residents.
Development & Peace
Emmaus House
Serving at Emmaus House involves caring for the poor of our city by distributing food. It is a response to Jesus' words: "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat." This ministry is an Inter-Church effort undertaken by St. Thomas' Anglican, the Basilica, the Anglican Cathedral, and St. Patrick's parishes here in the city.
Gathering Place
Home Visitation
This is a program set up by the Basilica Parish to visit people who are home-bound. Those wanting a visit, or who know of someone who would like a visit, phone the Basilica to arrange a time.
