Liturgical Ministries

Hospitality

Greeters: This ministry involves welcoming those who gather for the Eucharist and other liturgies celebrated by the parish. The purpose of this ministry is to enable the whole community to take up their ministry of welcome and hospitality.

Tea & Coffee after the 11:00 am. Mass: This part of the ministry of hospitality provides for refreshments and friendship for all members of our community. Members are asked to take a turn setting up, serving and cleaning up.

Counters

Lectors (Readers)
Lectors assume responsibility for proclaiming the Word of God at the Sacraments. This ministry calls you to regular prayer and reflection with God's Word, to live the Gospel, to be present when scheduled and to attend one workshop a year.

Cross & Candle Bearers
This ministry Involves you and/or your family in carrying the cross and candles in the procession at the beginning and end of Eucharist. It leads the gathered community to enter into the celebration at hand. A practice session is available for those interested.

Liturgy of the Word with Children
This ministry involves reflecting on and praying the Gospel with children who are still on their way to full initiation into the community's life of faith. It helps children hear and respond to God's Word in ways appropriate to their age. This ministry invites you to work as part of a team, to become familiar with the scriptures and grow in faith.

Gift Bearers
Gift Bearers present our gifts of bread and wine on behalf of the whole community. This ministry calls us to remember and reflect on the fact that we offer not only bread and wine but our lives as well.

Communion Ministers
Those responsible for this ministry distribute communion at Mass on Sundays and weekdays as well as at weddings and funerals. For those who are able, this ministry involves taking communion to the sick of the parish. Ministers are usually scheduled every second week for Sunday Mass and are appointed when available for other occasions. There is an initial formation meeting tor new ministers and a workshop usually once a year.

Lay Presider
This ministry involves presiding at the various liturgical celebrations which we are called to do by virtue of our baptism. Presently, this ministry is focused on Morning and Evening Prayer but may expand in the future to include celebrations of the Word with and without communion in the absence of a presbyter.

Server
Servers minister in the liturgy through such activities as preparing the altar before the Liturgy of the Eucharist and serving the presider. This ministry is active both on weekdays and weekends and is open to all parishioners.

Music
This ministry leads the assembly singing on Sunday and weekday liturgies, and at all liturgical celebrations. As well, this ministry provides the necessary training and support for those who are interested in the role of cantor / song leader. Choir rehearsals are held each Wednesday night from 7:30pm to 9pm in the Sacred Heart Room and the choir meets each Sunday morning at 10:30pm in preparation for the 11am mass. New members, both singers and instrumentalists of all kinds, are always needed and welcome.

Church Art and Environment
This is a committee that looks after decorating the church for the different liturgical seasons. The committee maintains appropriate decoration throughout the year.

Sacristan
This ministry centres around preparing the various material (bread, wine, vessels, liturgical books, etc.) needed for the different liturgical celebrations of the parish such as Sunday and weekday Eucharist, funerals, weddings and reconciliation services.
