Blessed Virgin Mary Society
In 1839 the Society of the Blessed Virgin Mary was founded in this parish and is still active today. The first Wednesday of every month, at 1:30 pm. The members meet in the Parish Room. The meeting consists of prayer, primarily the Rosary, and a short business meeting. Frequently a guest speaker is invited to present a short reflection on a topic of interest to the members. Legion of Mary
Founded by Frank Duff, along with a group of women and Father Michael Toher, in Dublin Ireland, the Legion of Mary is an association of Catholic men, women and children, who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership and Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of all Graces, have formed themselves into a Legion for service to the Church. The Legion of Mary is solely spiritual. The members give themselves to prayer, evangelization and works of service. Legion of Mary members meet each week for 1 hour. At that meeting the rosary is prayed along with the prayers of the Tessera. Reports of assignments completed during the previous week are provided and new assignments given. The Spiritual Director provides a reading from the handbook of the Legion and gives a spiritual message to those present. The regular presence of the members at weekly meetings is an essential aspect of the Legion of Mary.
